Status of the alignment sensor calibrations in the ATLAS muon experiment |

ATLAS is a particle detector which is being built at CERN in Geneva. The muon detection system is made up among other things, of 600 chambers measuring 2 to 6 m2 and 30 cm thick. The chambers’position must be known with an accuracy of +/- 30 m for translations and +/-100 rad for rotations for a range of +/- 5mm and +/-5mrad. In order to fulfill these requirements, we have designed different optical sensors. Due to the number of sensors (over 1000) and their different types, several PC based calibration bench was developed. Due to the very high accuracy required, each optical sensor must be calibrated, so each type of optical sensor is associated with an accurate calibration bench. In this conference, we will present only the most complex one which combines an ergonomic user interface, motor control and temperature and position monitoring, sequencing operation, numerical analysis and database management. The software is now currently used for sensors calibration. |
